Periodic Table, Innovation and Future

On December 20, 2017, during its 74th Plenary Meeting, the 72nd Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed 2019 as the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT 2019). In this way, the UN wanted to recognize the need to develop a growing global awareness of the key role played by the elements of the periodic table in Sustainable Development by providing important solutions to global challenges, such as energy, water, food, health or social welfare. In fact, the resolution was adopted as part of the UN Program on Science and Technology for Development. The commemoration coincides with the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the Periodic System by Dmitry Mendeleev in 1869.

The objective of this round table will be to analyze innovations around different key elements of the periodic table and their contribution to the future for sustainable development and for the progress of humanity.
